1. Nature and purpose of heat treatment. Classification of methods of thermal and chemical-thermal treatment of metals. 2. Objectives and methods of annealing (soft, homogenization / diffusion, normalization, recrystallization, isothermal, stress relief annealing). 3. Hardening - essence and methods (straight, angled, intermittent), hardening temperature, hardenability and its evaluation. 4. Tempering - essence and methods, use in tool and structural steels, tempering brittleness. 5. Processes in chemical-thermal treatment, individual methods (cementing, nitrocementing, nitriding, sulfonitriding, boriding, alitization). 6. Current trends, promising materials and technologies for thermal and chemical-thermal processing of metals. 7. Practical aspects of heat treatment technologies - steels for springs and rolling bearings, structural steels, stainless (austenitic, martensitic) steels, tool steels. 8. Terminology and classification of methods of heat treatment of non-ferrous metals. 9. Heat treatment of aluminum alloys (homogenization annealing, soft annealing, removal of internal stress, recrystallization annealing). 10. Nature and methods of hardening of Al - alloys (goal of hardening, procedures - natural and artificial hardening). 11. Nature and methods of heat treatment of hot pressed powder metals (powder metallurgy).

From the application point of view, most manufacturing companies use, during technological processes, one of the methods of heat treatment of the material. These are technologies applied to metallurgical semi-finished products, in the production of machine parts, parts or tools based on metallic materials. This is the reason why workers from engineering operations, technical preparation of production, output control, respectively. laboratories, should be qualified in the ways and nature of changes in heat treatment, including diagnostic methods, which can clearly verify the resulting characteristics of the material - which is the main goal of this course.
Mastering the basic knowledge and ability to determine appropriate procedures for heat treatment of metallic materials. Knowledge of the nature and course of processes taking place during the heat treatment of metals. Ability to determine the most suitable heat treatment procedure for the case of the material used. Orientation in individual methods of heat treatment and knowledge of its possible influence on the material.
