Learning outcomes of the course unit The subject acquaints students with the theory of machining process using tools with defined cutting edge geometry and undefined cutting edge geometry. Students will learn the theory of chip formation and related terminology, the issue of tools with defined geometry and undefined cutting edge geometry and their applications, and the issues of surfaces so obtained. During machining, they will also deal with the cutting environment and phenomena such as temperature and vibration. Covered topics 1. Mechanics of creation 2. Primary and secondary plastic deformation and their influence 3. Increase 4. Integrity of machined surface 5. Forces, torque and machining powers, their calculation and influence of working parameters 6. Vibration during machining and influence of working parameters on vibration 7. Heat and cutting temperature and influence of working conditions on these phenomena 8. Causes and forms of tool wear 9. Tool life and tool life 10. Machinability and cutting ability 11. Cutting environment
