Learning outcomes
The course introduces students to the role of the public sector in the economy (increasing societal welfare through the provision of public goods and services), methods of allocating public funds, and major areas of public expenditure. The course then focuses on the financing and role of selected public sector fields (social security, healthcare, education, defense, and others). Upon completion of the course, students will gain knowledge about the scope and specific activities and agendas of the public sector commonly provided in developed countries, methods of financing, specifics associated with these activities, and reasons why these are provided dominantly by the public sector.
Upon completing this course, students will understand the scope of activities that the public sector provides, reasons why these activities are commonly provided by the public sector, how these activities are financed and how they benefit the societal welfare.
