BLOCK 2 (Modern world and values) 5. Democracy and law (Dworkin). 6. Democracy and its crisis (Urbinati). 7. Democracy and violence (Žižek). 8. Democracy and ecology (Kohák). BLOCK 3 (Modern world and identity) 9. Gender and modern political theory (Butler). 10. Roads to emancipation (Barša). 11. Contemporary nationalism (Anderson). 12. What holds society together? (Elster).

Learning outcomes
The course is divided into three separate blocks, which form thematically linked units. The first deals with issues of new models and democracy, which are emphasized in contemporary political theory and are part of current discussions and modernization efforts. The second block is democracy and society in relation to current trends and values of society, such as the relationship to law, violence, but also ecology and the discussed crisis of democracy and democratic forms of government. The final block is the question of identity formation in today's world. Whether it is questions of gender identity, nationalism, the process of emancipation or the cohesion of society. The course is based on the most important contributions of world production, but does not leave out important Czech authors.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student distinguishes individual theoretical approaches used in political science. The student is able to characterize the key topics of contemporary political theory. The student is able to choose a suitable political science theory for understanding political reality. The student is familiar with key topics of political theory.

Assessment methods and criteria

To complete the course, the student must complete three types of attestation. Didactic test for verification of factual knowledge, seminar work for verification of work with literature and oral examination for verification of the ability to argue. The student chooses from which block to perform what kind of attestation. And it performs only one attestation from one block.
