1. Comparative method and comparative policy. 2. Conditions of long-term development I. (modernization, geographical location of mineral wealth). 3. Conditions of long-term development II. (institutions, demography, infrastructure). 4. Governance, state capacity, political institutions. 5. Types of political regimes. 6. Institutions of the state I. (parliaments, governments, executive-legislative relations). 7. State institutions II. (courts, bureaucracy, state administration). 8. Democratic competition and political representation. 9. Organized interests and political participation. 10. Constitutional engineering. 11. Institutional engineering in divided companies. 12. Alternatives to liberal democracy. 13. Quality of democracy.

Learning outcomes
|
The course is devoted to the comparison of modern democracies. It focuses on several main topics. The first presents a general view of comparative research and research techniques in comparative political science. The second deals with the problematization of the development of democracies. The third focuses on the comparison of the main types of government systems (political regimes). The fourth deals with the comparison of political institutions at different levels of government (executive, legislation, judiciary, direct democracy, the system of mediation of interests). The fifth focuses on the issues of constitutional engineering, alternatives to liberal democracy and the quality of democracy.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student distinguishes individual approaches used in comparative political science. The student is able to characterize the specifics of individual types of government systems. The student is able to compare different institutions within the system of multilevel governance (executive, legislation, judiciary, direct democracy, the system of mediation of interests). The student is able to understand the issues of constitutional (institutional) engineering.
