Course content
|
1. Basics of political science, its formation, subject of study, problems of its position and significance in the system of social sciences and in society. 2.Political ideologies - the essence and function of ideologies, characteristic features of key political ideologies (conservatism, liberalism, socialism). 3. State - origin, essence, functions and signs of the state, classification of states - republic x monarchy, simple state x compound, secular x theocratic. 4. Constitution and constitutionality - bases and development of modern constitutionalism, characteristics, structure, function and classification of constitutions, principles of constitutionality in a democratic state. 5. Division of power in a democratic state - vertical (centralization x decentralization of power), horizontal (parliamentary x presidential political system). 6. Democracy - research of democracy in political science (theory, models, authors), definition and basic features of democracy, typology of democracies - direct x indirect democracy, majority x consensus, etc., issues of democracy formation and development in Europe and in the world. 7. Totalitarianism and other undemocratic regimes - definition and characteristics of totalitarianism of the 20th century, problems of other types of undemocratic political regimes and their research in political science. 8.Political parties - their characteristics, functions, organizations, classifications, party families, typology of party systems (monopartism, bipartism, multipartism). 9. Interest organizations and pressure groups - their essence and function, types of interest organizations and pressure groups in politics. 10. Elections and electoral systems - the essence and function of elections, the electoral process, the right to vote, the basic characteristics of electoral systems (proportional, majority, mixed).

Learning outcomes
|
The course is designed as an overview, aims to acquaint students with the key thematic areas and problems that are of interest to political science.
The student is acquainted with the introduction to political science, is aware of the meaning, significance and subject of study of this scientific discipline. He is acquainted with the basic political science literature, understands the characteristics of political work and interpretation of political reality.

Seminar paper and written test verifying the basic orientation in the subject matter, verification of the basic skills of analytical thinking, which is a prerequisite for further study of political science and social sciences.
