1. Theory of second-order elections I.: concept, theory, approaches in research. 2. Theory of secondary elections II.: differences in the "secondary" elections at different levels of government. 3. Second-order elections in Western Europe I. 4. Second-order elections in Western Europe II. 5. Second-order elections in Western Europe III. 6. Second-order elections in Central and Eastern Europe I. 7. Second-order elections in Central and Eastern Europe II. 8. Second-order elections in Central and Eastern Europe III. 9. Second-order elections in the Czech Republic I. 10. Second-order elections in the Czech Republic II. 11. Second-order elections in the Czech Republic III. 12. Second-order elections in non-European countries.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the concept of second-order elections. It introduces the theoretical framework distinguishing between first-order and second-order elections. Introduces the basic research techniques of second-order election research. The presented theoretical knowledge and methodological research tools are then demonstrated at selected election competitions in European countries. Attention is paid to both elections to the European Parliament and selected elections at lower levels of government - regional elections, local elections, etc.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student is able to interpret the concept of second-order elections and the specifics of elections to the European Parliament. The student is able to analyze the results of elections in a multilevel arrangement of specific countries. The student is able to explain the specifics of second-order elections (municipal, regional, senate, European) in the Czech political system.

For successful completion of the course, relevant activity is required during the seminars, oral presentation of the paper and submission of seminar work.
