1. Historical development of elections and the right to vote. 2. Classification of electoral systems. 3. Research of electoral systems. Electoral laws and their critique. 4. Majority electoral systems I. 5. Majority electoral systems II. 6. Semi-proportional electoral systems. 7. Proportional electoral systems I. 8. Proportional electoral systems II. 9.Single transferable vote, personalized proportional systems. 10. Mixed electoral systems I. 11. Mixed electoral systems II. 12. Development of the electoral system in the Czech lands. Electoral reforms in the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes
The course is devoted to the issue of elections and electoral systems. It focuses on the introduction of the main types of electoral systems (majority, proportional, mixed and semi-proportional) and their individual subtypes. It also introduces the effects of electoral systems on the party systems of different countries. Important attention is also paid to the development of electoral systems and electoral reforms in the Czech lands and the Czech Republic.
The student is able to use professional terminology. The student distinguishes between different types of electoral systems. The student is able to compare the effect of different types of electoral systems on party systems. The student is able to characterize the development of electoral systems in the Czech lands and the Czech Republic.

To successfully complete the course, it is required to submit a seminar paper in the range of 8 to 10 standard pages and successful completion of the exam.
