Learning outcomes
The course focuses on the historical and systematic interpretation of the relationship between state and religion, especially in the context of European space related to Czech history (especially beginning with Joseph II and his reforms) and on the present Czech Republic. It follows the course of Philosophy of Religion, which is a part of the related bachelor's degree programs. Philosophical understanding of religion is extended by a reflection of the state in relation to religion. Knowledge of history, sociology, religious studies, political science and philosophy are used to clarify the relationship of state power to religion and status of religious organizations in the state. It is also focused on historical impact of development, the development of secularization, as well as clarifying the separation of church and state and contemporary conditions and position of religious organizations in the state.
Student will acquire the following academic knowledge: - get acquainted with the political science of religion as an developing discipline - acquire a basic overview of the history of the relationship between state and religion - understand the role of religion and religious organizations in the modern state - acquire prerequisite for assessing the relationship of religious organizations in the religiously neutral state - can apply current knowledge of humanities on the relationship between state and religion
