The course is focused on the coalition governance at various levels within the concept of multilevel governance, including both national, as well as, regional, and local levels of governance. Basic theoretical approaches which will be introduced are game theory, public choice theory, the theory of coalitions, and the possibilities of their application to relationships and linkages between various actors in the development of various kinds of coalitions. Taking into account the different levels of analysis, there will be an important issue the discussion about the difficulties in transferring and applying these concepts, developed for the national level, to the lower levels of analysis.
Students will gain the ability to interpret theoretical approaches regarding the concept of coalitions and coalition governance, and to characterize and compare the main features of governance in selected countries. Students are also able to apply selected theoretical concepts within a particular political system both at national level and at the (sub) state (regional, local) levels of government. |
