1) Introduction to the course 2) Origins of the discipline and its establishment 3) Political thinking in a historical descriptive 4) Theoretical-methodological evolution of the discipline 5) Main approaches in the contemporary political science 6) Polity, politics and policy 7) Political ideologies 8) Democracy in the political philosophy perspective 9) Democracy vs. non-democracy 10) "Classical" theories of totalitarianism 11) Linz and Stepan's theory of non-democratic regimes 12) Transitions to democracy 13) Hybrid regimes as an analytical framework for the most recent non-democratic regimes

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to get students acquainted with the basis of political science, its formation, the subject of study, the issue of its status and importance in the social sciences and society.
Student will become familiar with an introduction to political science, is aware of the meaning, importance and object of study of this discipline. He/ she is familiar with the basic political science literature, understands the characteristics of work and interpretation of political reality.

Oral exam (interview) verifying basic understanding of the subject matter, verifying the ability of analytical thinking, which is a prerequisite for further study of political science and social sciences.
