Learning outcomes
|
Students will get acquainted with the history of the European political thought from 18th to 19th century. Special attention will be given to the thinkers of the American revolution (Jefferson, the Federalists), the French revolution (Montesquieu, Rousseau), the most important documents of both revolutions (the Declaration of Independence, The Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen) and to thinkers, who wrote about the consequences of both revolutions (Burke, Hegel, Tocqueville).
Student will acquire following competences: - ability to judge critically political theories and thinkers from 18. to 19. century - will be able to write an informed essay about the political thought from 18. to 19. century

Assessment methods and criteria

The credit will be given for the oral defence of the paper. The paper must be at least 6 pages long (10800 characters including spaces and footenotes) and its topic should be selected from the the main topics of the seminar.
