Course content
1 - Comparative Political Science I. Comparative Method. Main topics of comparative analysis. The theory of the political system. Structure-functional analysis. 2 - Comparative Political Science II. The comparative method. Main topics of comparative analysis. 3 - Government Systems I. Parliamentary systems. 4 - Government Systems II. Presidential systems, semi-presidential systems, direct democracy. 5 - Consociational democracy, consensual and the Westminster model. 6 - The right to vote and classification of the electoral systems. 7 - Electoral systems I. - Majoritarian electoral systems, semi-proportional electoral systems. 8 - Electoral systems II. - Proportional electoral systems, single transferable vote system, personalized proportional voting, mixed electoral systems. 9 - Evolution of the electoral system in the Czech lands.

Learning outcomes
The course is devoted to a comparative political science. The course concentrates on the government and the electoral systems, which are posed in the context of the so-called model and transition countries
Student can use scholarly terminology. Student distinguishes the different approaches used in comparative political science. Student is able to characterize the specifics of individual types of government systems. Students can distinguish different types of electoral systems.

The course has no prerequisite courses or other prerequisites.

For successful completion of the course is required the writing a seminar work, and passing a written test, the questions will be based on the content of lectures and compulsory (basic) literature.
