Course content |
1. Basic terms from the field of cartography: cartographic works, definition of cartography. The shape of the Earth and its simple representation in cartography and projection (its use in creating our state maps in Czech Republic) 2. Historical development of cartography in the world and the oldest maps of our region. State maps in our past and present day. Basic geodetic nets and coordinate systems in our maps. Content and form of the map and the basics of composition in creating maps. 3. State map works with thematic content and other thematic maps. Application of cartography in monument documentation. 4. Collecting of space data with help of GPS and their visualisation. 5. Introduction into geographic information systems and their application in conservation care. 6. Remote sensing of the Earth and its use in archaeology and conservation care. 7. Opening up of the data on the Internet - map servers. 8. Laser scanning - basics and application. 9. Creating documentation in CAD - basics. 10. - 14. Field practice.

Learning outcomes |
The course follows the Basics of geodesy I, and it should introduce the students to the basics of cartography and other methods of collection of space data for documentation in conservation care. These are basic information on the remote sensing of Earth, mapping with help of GPS, geographical information systems, laser scanning. Important is practical application of the mentioned methods. Basic part of the course will be field location and data gathering in selected heritage objects.

To finish the course Basics of geodesy I. Elaboration and defending of 2 seminar papers. Individual project of documentation of the chosen monument with geodesy methods including evaluation. |
