The goal of the subject is to introduce the student to the main trends of historiography in the 20th century with regard to other disciplines (philosophy, sociology, economy, anthropology, geography). We will stress seeking for possibilities of interdisciplinary approaches (as a starting point for the crisis of historicism and historical positivism or ideological dogmatism) which is present in the works of important artists in various forms from the beginning of the last century. The lectures are on following topics and should be complemented by reading of scientific literature.
The student understands historiography as a scientific subject whose paradigm is changing in time as it reacts to actual trends in other social and humanitarian sciences. On the examples from historiography of the 20th century he can supply evidence to the basic variety of the subject paradigm. He knows the basic terminology, e.g. historicism, historiography, periodization, historical anthropology, cultural history, micro-history, history of everydayness, mentality (mental equipment and collective psychology), total concept of history, serial history, historical sociology, Long duration, analysis of the structures, "new history" etc. He can find his way in historiographic works which are connected with given terms, can put them into the right period and characterize their sources of inspiration and interdisciplinary overlap.
