The course aims to provide students with information in three basic areas. The basic and introductory part of the course is oriented towards current issues of the Czech language, it is a necessary initial revision of the students knowledge in grammatical, lexical and stylistics aspects. The current codification of the language will be presented in a partial way, and the students attention will be focused on problematic phenomena in everyday written and spoken communication. In the second strand, attention will then be focused on the requirements, requisites and procedures for the creation and presentation of a professional historical text, in the context of the field and the requirement of the presentation of professional texts expected of a graduate of the study. The last major subtopic of the first strand is related to this aspect, which will focus the students attention on the spectrum of principles of typograhic requisites of a professional text (with regard to the new typographic standard - CSN 01 6910).
Skills and competences are directed towards two levels: 1) General and theoretical aspects of the field: The student is able to characterise the development of the Czech language in a basic way, to explain the nature of the individual stages of language development and to explain the main changes brought about by these stages. The student will be able to distinguish functional styles of the language with a focus on professional texts. In this case, the student knows the basic principles of text structure, stylistics, and can make appropriate use of professional terminology and knows the basic rules of computer typography. 2) Practical parts of the course: The course focuses on mastering the grammatical, syntactical and stylistic rules of the language at a concrete and practical level. In this respect, it is and effort aimed at leveling up the language skills of those students who show deficiencies not only in professional but also in everyday use of written and spoken language. In this respect, the student will acquire (or repeat) the basic spelling, wordformation and lexical rules and elements.
