Learning outcomes
|
The course acquaints students with the basic principles of the dynastic administration of the empire after the coronation of Charles the Great. On the basis of preserved sources of an official nature as well as narrative texts, it analyzes the basic communication strategies of the ruling family and elites in the administration of the empire and its territorial transformations at the time of the transfer of power. The focus is on the period 800-843
Students will consolidate the existing knowledge about European culture during the Carolingian Renaissance and gain new knowledge. In a practical form, they will deepen the basic skills of the historical method: critical analysis and interpretation of sources in the context of contemporary professional discourse on this topic.

Assessment methods and criteria

Teaching will take place in a seminar form. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis and critical interpretation of period sources under the guidance of the teacher. Basic knowledge of the political development of the Frankish Empire and Europe in the 8th and 9th centuries at the BA level is assumed, active cooperation with the teacher and the ability to independently formulate the basic problems of the topic in the final discussion.
