Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to expand and supplement the basic knowledge of Christian iconography that students have acquired during their bachelor's studies through selected topics. The choice of individual topics, which are largely focused outside the area of classical Christian iconography, is to provide students with an insight into other iconographic genres, often significantly linked to classical historical knowledge. The aim is to provide students with a basic overview of various iconographic areas and topics. During the course, students will also acquire basic skills in iconographic and iconological interpretation of pictorial material. They can later use these skills in their own research activities or in future teaching activities.
The graduate of the course knows the difference between iconography and iconology, is familiar with the historical development of both fields and knows their most important representatives. He has extensive knowledge in the areas of mythological iconography, allegorical iconography, literary iconography and scientific iconography. He knows a wider range of professional literature, especially lexicons and handbooks.
Prerequisites
There is no prerequisite for the course, however, students who did not complete the basic course Introduction to Iconography in their bachelor's studies are recommended to complete this course as a PVK. Completing the course does not require any special competencies. Students of the Mgr. studies are naturally expected to be able to prepare papers based on the study of foreign language, especially German literature.
