Assessment methods and criteria

A) attendance at lectures B) active participation in discussions C) completion of 2 tasks via Moodle: 1) The student will discuss the topic and main research question with the teacher during the seminar. The topic should be as narrow/specific as possible (in terms of subject matter, time, and space). After the topic and question have been approved, the student will prepare and upload the seminar paper assignment to Moodle (the MS Word file will include the following items: - student's name, title of the seminar paper, abstract (approx. 10 lines: time and space definition; main and sub-research questions/objectives; expected methods).2) After the previous task has been approved, students will conduct research of sources and professional literature on the chosen topic. They will submit it to Moodle as a file (MS Word/OpenOffice) according to the bibliographic conventions of the Czech Historical Journal. The file must include the following items: student's name; title of the seminar paper; at least 2 unpublished or published sources; at least 5 specialist books, 1 popular science book, 2 studies from anthologies, 1 journal study from WoS or Scopus, 1 journal study from JSTOR and 5 databases used (apart from the mandatory WoS, Scopus and JSTOR). Upon agreement with the teacher, some items may be replaced by others. D) Preparation of a seminar paper demonstrating the ability to apply historical methods (and others), including the interpretation of two (unpublished or published) historical sources in the context of the latest research. Submission to Moodle as a file (MS Word/OpenOffice) of 10 standard pages with 1.5 line spacing, where a standard page = 1,800 characters (including spaces and notes). The text should therefore be 18,000 characters (including spaces and footnotes), font size 12 (serif). The text must be aligned to the block. The footnotes must directly or indirectly cite at least 2 sources (including contemporary periodicals), 5 specialist books (with scientific apparatus), 1 popular science book, 2 studies from anthologies, 1 journal study from WoS or Scopus, and 1 journal study from JSTOR. Some items may be replaced with others in consultation with the instructor. Structure: introduction, main body (may be divided into several chapters), conclusion, list of sources. The introduction must: 1) define the research questions (objectives), 2) evaluate, comment on, and describe the methods used, and, if applicable, classify the text according to a methodological "school" and subscribe to methodological "models," 3) evaluate, comment on, and describe the sources, 4) evaluate, comment on, and describe key professional literature, 5) comment on the structure of the work. The list of sources (divided into A) sources, B) professional texts, and footnotes with abbreviated citations must be in accordance with the style specified by ČČH. The exam is conditional on the fulfillment of the above conditions. The exam takes the form of a discussion (defense) of the seminar paper, corrected and approved by the teacher, on methods, research, results, and problems.
