The aim of the course is to provide students of single-subject history with a basic overview of cultural and artistic development from the Renaissance to the 20th century. The course is designed as a contextual extension of the knowledge that students axquire in basic theoretical courses, measured predominantly in political, religious, and economic history. The course primarily emphasizes issues of visual art and architecture, but issues of spiritual culture, literature, theatre, etc. are also represented. The lectures of course are designed in direct continuity with the content of the lectures on the history of the early modern, 19th and 20th centuries. The student applies the knowledge axquired in the course not only in his/her own research work, but also in selected areas of theSSZ question.
The student has wider knowledge of the field of cultural history which helps him in his further direction in study subjects of Historic sights documentation, cultural history, history or aesthetics. He is able to apply the knowledge in other subjects as well, mainly in history of visual art, but also in other purely historical or aesthetical subjects. The student manages the chronological overview of the development of the subject. He is able to speak about the most important personalities and their specifications, interpret the basic ideological structures. Further he can manage the scientific terminology and can use it in practice as well as some other skills (basic iconographic identification of the art work, style categorization of the monument, etc.). He also knows the magazines and publications of the field and knows scientific literature.
