Course content
The teaching of the course in full-time form includes the following lecture topics on a weekly basis: 1. History as a science, definition of history; the task, utility and public role of history 2. Philosophy of history, theory of history, historicism; periodization of history 3. Territorial, spatial division of history 4. Thematic division of history; organization of historical sciences in the Czech Republic 5. Historical method 6. Heuristics; specialist text, structure of specialist text 7. Bibliography, electronic information sources 8. Excerpts, citations, references, notes 9. Sources and literature - basic introduction 10. Professional journals 11. Basic overview of types of sources 12. Editions of sources 13. Critique of sources (external and internal) Programme of seminars: 1. Principles of undergraduate study and systematics at History department 2. Questions in historical research. How to formulate the assignment of a seminar paper - poster. 3. Annotation, abstract, resumé, summary 4. How to recognize a professional text 5. Professional literature - monograph, journal, proceedings 6. Databases of professional literature - domestic, foreign 7. Practical work with literature - citation standard 8. Practical work with literature - reviews 9. Structure and technical design of the poster 10. Methods of working with text - comparison and compilation 11. Presentation of historical research - paper 12. Basics of historical terminology 13. Learning outcomes
The course should introduce the students to history as a scientific subject, with its position in the world of science and with its inner dividing, organizational structures in Czech Republic, sources and scientific literature, with the method that history works with. The students will gain basic practical skills in a historical paper.
The students will acquire basic knowledge about the subject. They will use this knowledge in practice by elaborating the seminar paper.

Attendance at the course, elaborating of poster on a given and approved topic. The students have to pass a written test.
