Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the interdisciplinary concept of material culture research, which includes an interest in the history of objects, examining the transformation of their functions determined by their materiality, the relationship of users to them, and their role in the social status of their owners. The subject is perceived as a symbol of lifestyle, which contributes to social differentiation and creates symbolic "cultural boundaries." It is part of the so-called objectified cultural capital, which has a key function in cultural and social inclusion/exclusion.
As part of a seminar assignment on a given topic, students will demonstrate their ability to work with specialist literature and interpret assigned iconographic or written historical sources related to various aspects of material culture and everyday life. They will be able to present the topic, respond to questions, and argue their case professionally.
