Course content
Topics of the lectures: 1. Stucture of museology (introducing the concept of the course, basic overview of the literature of the subject and the information sources, subject terminology). 2. Metamuseology (the subject of museology, the term of musealisation, the context of the sciences about cultural heritage and the history of science, the relation of museology towards other science disciplines, eco-museology, critical museology). 3. History of museum management in Czech lands until the 18th century (ancient and antique collectorship, Middle Age treasure collections, Charles the IV. as a collector, collectors' cabinets, Rudolf II as a collector, museums of the 18th century). 4. History of museum management in Czech lands from the 19th century till middle 20th century (exhibition management of the 19th century, founding of museums, specialized museums and regional museums, museum publications and organizations, Czechoslovak museum and exhibition management until 1938). 5. History of museum management in the Czech lands from the middle 20th century (Nazi occupation, confiscation and nationalization, professionalization of work in museum, founding of Czech science museology, museum organizations and present day museum management). 6. Theory of museum selection (object of musealisation, primary context, primary and secondary documentation, active and passive selection, collection plan, report of finding). 7. Theory of museum treasuring (scientific documentation and record keeping, authenticity and integrity of the object, preventive and reconstruction conservation, restoration). 8. Theory of museum presentation (primary and secondary presentation, mediation, ostension, digitalization, collection catalogues, research rules). 9. Museum management and marketing (definition and specification of museum institution, founding documentation, conception and planning, organization of the museum, communication and outer relations, legal norms and subject standards, check and evaluation). 10. Museum architecture (historical development, representation, spaces for the public - information system, cash desk, cloackroom, toilette, shop, exhibition spaces, study, accessibility, inner operating rooms - offices, specialized workplaces, depository, operating technical rooms). 11. Museum security (analysis of the risks, security politics, security plan, guards and the supervision, anti-theft system, fire system, security camera system, measuring and regulation, occupational safety and hygiene). 12. Information and propagation (Public relations, advertisement, media plan, target groups, attendance, press release, press conference, internet and social nets). 13. Museum pedagogy (activation of the visitor, animation programmes, project and subject teaching, art and crafts workshops, work sheets, regional or thematic textbooks on history and nature). 14. Exhibition management (exhibition programme, ideological plan, libretto, scenario, informational technologies, supporting programmes, virtual exhibition).

Learning outcomes
The students will get the basic information of the structure and subject of museology including technical terminology and overview of the history of museology in Czech lands. The lectures will emphasize the categorization of museology into the system of sciences which have cultural heritage as their subject. Further lectures will explain application of museology to single subject specializations. In the theoretical museology the lectures will be directed at the general principles of musealisation in the fields of social and natural sciences. In single chapters from museography the students will be taught the basic problematic of practical skills in present-day museum management and the present day juridical state in this field. Stress is put on Czech surrounding and further scientific direction of the students is followed. If possible, we will make one commented excursion into museum.
