Learning outcomes
|
The course is devoted to selected aspects of the history of court culture and life at monarchical, aristocratic and other courts in Europe, with an emphasis on the Central European region in the medieval and early mdoern periods (see thematic areas). The aim of the course is to deepen students knowledge of this issue. The course, accompanied by powerpoint presentations, will also include the interpretation of contemporary iconographic, written and other sources in relation to general themes and model examples.
By completing the course, the student will gain knowledge of the phenomenon of court culture in the 13th-18th centuries, but also insight into the broader context of European cultural, social and political history. At the same time, the student will acquire the competecne to work with older and recent literature and archival documents related to the issue of courts of various kinds and their development in the High and Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Period. Another important outcome of the course is that the student will be able to compare the specific knowledge acquired in the field of the Habsburg monarch ywith the general development of the phenomenon in pre-modern Europe.
