Course content
|
The teaching of the course in the combined form includes the following topics in individual teaching blocks: 1. Historiography at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries; positivism and historicism; Historiography and sociology; historical sociology; 2. The origins of the Annales school; The concept of Long Duration, Braudel's concept of total history, historical geography 3. Generations of the Annales School; History of the everyday life; 4. Microhistory; Historical anthropology; Cultural history.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic aspects of population development against the background of historical development. Emphasis is placed not only on the typology of sources, but also on the methods of historical demography and historical statistics, including other quantitative methods in historiographical research. Attention will also be paid to the concrete change of the population of the Czech state in historical perspective. The course will also include procedures for creating an electronic database when working with bulk sources.
The graduate of the course is oriented in the problems of modern historiography. The student understands its origins and perceives its institutional anchorage. He or she understands the importance of the journal and the Annales school and its first generation. Knows the names of important pre-war historians from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Russia and America. Understands the problems of quantitative history and knows the representatives of this movement. He is well acquainted with the so-called third generation of the Annales school. Understands the influence of foreign historians on modern Czech history.

The course is implemented in the form of lectures and exercises. In the lectures, it is necessary to absorb the basic aspects of the subject matter, and in the exercises it is necessary to meet the attendance requirements. The subsequent examination is primarily written with the possibility of adjusting the final grade in the oral part of the examination.
