Course content
The seminars are divided into a theoretical part which has a specific topic and a practical part, which deals with terminology and the selected field of practical skills. Topics of lectures: 1. Introductory class 2. Overview of the beginnings of history of culture and art in the European region until the beginning of Enlightenment. 3. Basic overview of the beginnings of history of culture and art in Czech lands until the beginning of Enlightenment. 4. Iconographic minimum I 5. Iconographic minimum II 6. Interpretation of art work. 7. Scientific terminology I 8. Scientific terminology II 9. Scientific terminology III 10. 1st practice test 11. Historical topography 12. Historical geography 13. Expert excursion (chosen freely according to the actions and exhibitions at the moment) 14. 2nd practice test

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce the basic historical development of cultural history and art history as a subject. We will introduce important persons and their work from the time of Ancient history till the 20th century. The students will also learn about scientific literature, mainly handbooks and encyclopaedias which can help them in later individual work. The students must learn the basics of scientific terminology (conservation of monuments, cultural history, art). They will also learn some other skills, e.g. from the iconographic analysis, historical geography, historical topography, etc.
The student has wider knowledge of the field of cultural history which helps him in his further direction in study subjects of Historic sights documentation, cultural history, history or aesthetics. He is able to apply the knowledge in other subjects as well, mainly in history of visual art, but also in other purely historical or aesthetical subjects. The student manages the chronological overview of the development of the subject. He is able to speak about the most important personalities and their specifications, interpret the basic ideological structures. Further he can manage the scientific terminology and can use it in practice as well as some other skills (basic iconographic identification of the art work, style categorization of the monument, etc.). He also knows the magazines and publications of the field and knows scientific literature.
Prerequisites
1. No special needs of previous disciplines. 2. No specific knowledge or skills, knowledge of German language can be of use.

Assessment methods and criteria
