The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issues of conservation and restoration processes in the basic areas of movable monuments of artistic and arts and crafts character, including the basic principles of preventive care and conservation. It includes the characteristics of basic materials and arts and crafts and art techniques, including the problems of material degradation, and an indicative overview of the methods of initial professional research and the conservation or restoration process itself. Emphasis is placed on the definition of the contribution of the expert - heritage worker to the course of the restoration process (historical, iconographic documents and methodological principles as an important prerequisite for the final interpretation); There is also an introduction to related sources and literature, including interdisciplinary contexts, including a presentation of the restoration action chosen according to the current situation in the region.
The graduate is capable of independent work with literature serving as supporting material to expand knowledge of the work intended for conservation - restoration intervention (official documents, restoration reports, documentary photographs, restoration laboratory research). This information can be used, for example, to specify lost iconographic details of a specific work of art, technologies used in the past, definition of the inviolable values of the work, accessories, etc. They are familiar with the basic sources and professional literature on interventions and transformations on works of art intended for restoration and basic knowledge of period technologies and current methods of restoration research.
