Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to synoptically introduce students to the development of history of fine arts from the first artistic expressions of humanity to the Romanesque period. Emphasis is laid on the individual cultural horizons and, as far as the later periods are concerned, on individual stylistic trends. The course is an inseparable part of the system of lecturing history of fine arts on the bachelor?s study level, which - in the case of the fields Documentation of Historical Monuments and Cultural History - closes with final state examination.
The graduates of the course demonstrate basal knowledge of cultural and historical developments from prehistory to the beginnings of the Romanesque style. They can synoptically characterize the cultural development in the significant regions and the developments of the particular artistic trends. They are also familiar with selected works of art and architecture dating to the given period and are capable of identifying and precisely dating and classifying them in the framework of the individual artistic style. They fluently manage working with professional art-historical literature.
Prerequisites
1. The graduation from the subject does not unconditionally require previous graduation from another discipline. 2. It is beneficial if students can work with foreign-language professional literature (in German and/or English). The students are also expected to have historical insight at least on the level of secondary-school curricula in the field of history.

Assessment methods and criteria
unspecified
Students are required to participate in the education, to manage studying the recommended literature and, eventually, issue an assigned independent work in the framework of the subject.
