Course content
The teaching of the course in the combined form includes the following topics in individual teaching blocks: 1.-2. Methods of historical work - synchronic and diachronic approach, method of comparison, typological method, periodization 3. Biographical method, geographical method 4. Historical anthropology Within the framework of self-study, students deal with the topics included in the compulsory literature and especially in the course outline, and with the tasks assigned in the full-time part of the course, as well as on the basis of actual conultations with the teacher ealized electronically.

Learning outcomes
The course should introduce the students to history as a scientific subject, with its position in the world of science and with its inner dividing, organizational structures in Czech Republic, sources and scientific literature, with the method that history works with. The students will gain basic practical skills in a historical paper.
The student will gain a clear knowlege of the subject and the ability to work idependently on a minor historical topic based on the study of literature and sources, demonstrated by the submission of a seminar paper.

Assessment methods and criteria

oral examination: conditional upon completion of Introduction to the Study of History I and acceptance of the seminar paper (handed in at least 7 days before the deadline), discussion of the seminar paper and related questions from the lecture topics of both semesters Seminar papers: Demonstrates the ability to apply historical method to the accounts of at least one historical source (published or unpublished) in the context of previous research. Length 9-12 standard pages; 1.5 line spacing, font size 12 (footer); text aligned in a block, so-called standard page = 1800 characters (including spaces and notes). Text length: 16 200-21 600 characters (including spaces and footnotes). The heuristic is based on a minimum of 4 peer-reviewed published papers. Structure: introduction - essay - conclusion; the essay should be divided into chapters; the introduction and conclusion should not be numbered. The introduction is devoted to a specific application of the historical method (heuristics, criticism, interpretative procedures). Bibliographical index (to be given according to the Czech Republic); footnotes (to be given according to the Czech Republic), abbreviated citations. Abstract, keywords not required.
