Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the methodological procedures of archaeology, the contribution of the field to the knowledge of the past, the specific testimony of material sources, and the possibilities of their interpretation and presentation to the public.
The student can name, describe and characterize basic archaeological methods, i.e. how to conduct and document archaeological research. He/she can determine how sources obtained by archaeological methods complement sources of a historical or architectural nature, as well as the limits that necessarily accompany their analysis. He/she will gain knowledge about the material culture of the Middle Ages and the early modern period and will be able to appreciate its contribution to the knowledge of everyday life of the given period. The key skill will be not only the ability to recognize the potential of archaeological research in individual categories of human settlements, but also to appropriately combine historical methods so that the possibility of knowing the past is as complete as possible.
