Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to present the history of sepulchral monuments in the pre-White Mountain period in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. The course sheds light on the artistic and art-historical development of these monuments, taking into account the similar development of sepulchral monuments in Europe. The history of sepulchral monuments is presented primarily in terms of artistic processing, with a special focus on typology.
The graduate will acquire the skill to chronologically classify an unknown sepulchral monument, both in the European and Czech-Moravian area, including assignment to the relevant artistic style. The student will acquire an orientation in the typology of monuments. The student will be able to document the monument, both verbally and photographically. The student will acquire the skill to determine the inscription, including its transcription. The student will be able to identify and describe the heraldic decoration of the sepulchral area. The student will acquire the skill to process basic prosopographic data on the owner of the sepulchral monument.
