|
Basic topics of the lectures: 1. The term of Czech Classicism and emigration in the 18th century. 2. Influence (and demands?) of the National Reawakening to the origination of Czech national music. 3. Opera production in Czech and Czechoslovak countries in the 19th and 20th century, symphonic poems of the Czech composers - the history and its understanding ("historicism"). 4. Selected symphonies of the Czech composers of the 19th and 20th centuries. 5. Overview of musical institutions in the 19th and 20th century: theatres, musical associations, festivals and publishing houses, unions, scientific institutions. 6. Composers and performing artists. 7. Everydayness and political contexts in the life and creation of an artist 8.- 11. Czechoslovakia, Czechs, Slovaks, Germans and Jews in the first half of the 20th century and the history of music. 12.-13. Musical life in Czechoslovakia in the 20th century.

Learning outcomes
|
The focus of the subject is to offer the students a basic overview of the historical development of the Czech music starting with the Middle Ages and ending in the 20th century.
The student will have a specific knowledge about the musical culture in Czech countries and also a basic overview of the periodization of the history of Czech music (or other types of art) and culture, can distinguish the notions of Czech music and music in Bohemia/Czech/ Czechoslovak Republic. He can connect the knowledge of the history of Czech music with the context of Czech and European history of the 19th and 20th century. He can make use of this knowledge to add to his cultural and historical horizons which he has from other subjects of study of History of Culture.
