1. Introduction, acquaintance with the terms and course of the course, introduction of the topic, basic literature and resources. 2. Problems of studying material culture of pre-modern, modern and contemporary history, sources, methods. 3. Industrialization, transformation of everyday life in the nineteenth century. 4. Everyday life and lifestyle in the 20th century. 5. Consumption, shopping, advertising. 6. Housing, health care, hygiene. 7. Childhood, old age and death; religion. 8. Clothing 9. Leisure 10. Military 11. Travel, social life. 12. Material culture of modern and contemporary history in the collections of Czech museums 13. Tour of the exhibition "Our Germans" in Ústí nad Labem 14. Final lesson, evaluation.

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to introduce students to the development of material culture in pre-modern, modern and contemporary history, roughly from the 18th century to the end of the 20th century. The history of material culture will be presented in close connection with the changes in everyday life and lifestyles, while placing it in the broader context of social, cultural, economic and political developments of the period. Attention will be paid primarily to the environment of the Czech lands, but the connections with general developments will also be systematically traced. The development of material culture will be demonstrated through specific objects found in the collections of Czech and foreign museums.
Students will learn in detail about the development of material culture in pre-modern, modern and contemporary history. They will deepen their knowledge of everyday life and lifestyles in the 18th to 20th centuries. They will be able to consider the history of material culture in the broader context of social, cultural, economic and political developments of the period. They will gain an overview of important objects found in the collections of Czech and foreign museums.
