The aim of the course is to provide students of history with a basic overview of the development of artistic culture from the onset of the Renaissance to the 20th century. The course is designed as a contextual extension of the knowledge that students acquire in basic theoretical courses, measured against political, religious, and economic history. The course primarily emphasizes issues in the visual arts and architecture, but issues in spiritual culture, literature, theater, music, and film are also represented. The lectures of the course are designed in relation to the content of the lectures on the history of Czech and general modern history, 19th and 20th century. The student applies the knowledge acquired in the course not only in his/her own research work, but also within the framework of the SSZ courses.
The graduate demonstrates an overview knowledge of artistic culture from the beginning of the Renaissance to the 20th century. The student is able to identify and interpret the most significant artistic expressions of various European regions with an emphasis on issues of domestic cultural development. In addition to this, the student has a basic knowledge of the terminology of the field and some partial knowledge of the fields of religious studies, iconography, geography, etc. He has an overview of basic titles of domestic literature. |
