The teaching of the subject includes the following topics in individual weeks (blocks): - "Tradition", possibilities and limits of the use of information technologies in the humanities -Information technology and historical scholarship -Digitization of sources (types of sources and their electronic accessibility, databases, possibilities of using digitized sources, examples) -The possibilities of using IT in school history and in popularising the results of historical science (examples of projects, history software) -Computer game with a historical theme as a basis for learning about the past? The phenomenon of "Serious game" - discussion -Genealogical programs as a specific type of "history software" -Creation of electronic presentation in the historical field, principles of visual accompaniment of communication of research results (elements, means, examples) -Conditions for the use of AI (development and characteristics of "big language models, relevance for the humanities, possibility, limits and future? Discussion.) -Possibility and relevance of AI tools for history as a scientific discipline / general education subject / subject of interest to the general public -Possibilities of selected tools for the field of history -Editing digital audio material (focusing on the possibilities, database-resources and practices of oral history) -History in Tables (software for analyzing quantitative sources in the context of historical demography)

Learning outcomes

The course is focused on those topics in the field of information technology that can benefit the professional historian in his professional work or popularization of the results of historical research. The course will present a range of programs that can be used in various areas of historical research and presentation of results (database and genealogical software, presentation programs, audio editors, etc.), while the spectrum of software resources will focus on freeware programs. Another (current) area of teaching will be oriented towards the use of "artificial intelligence", especially in relation to the preparation of background materials suitable for historical research - i.e., for example, research activities or "deep research" tools. Particular attention will be paid to the use of AI as an instrumental assistant in the actual implementation of specific historical research and also as a supporting tool in the subsequent presentation of research results. The third main area of teaching will be oriented towards electronic means as a basis for communicating the results of professional historical research or supporting popularisation or teaching (electronic and web presentations, online resources and platforms).
The graduate of the course will gain a basic orientation in the range of possibilities that the rapidly developing field of information technology provides for history as a science or general education subject. On a concrete level, the graduate will gain a comprehensive understanding of suitable sources of historical material from the Internet (especially collections of digitised source material). Through specific training, the student will then learn to use typical software tools that can benefit him/her in the profession of historian or in popularisation activities of a historical nature. After completing the course, the student will be able to: - make appropriate use of selected software tools for the implementation of selected types of historical research (creation of a basic database using quantitative methods of historical research, editing of historical materials of various types - digital image, sound, video, etc., tools for recording items of the source base. - use selected tools from the field of AI, through which he/she is able to obtain quality assumptions for further research activities or visualize facts related to his/her own research. The student will have the ability to make functional and complex prompts to AI tools (ability to create a functional prompt with the addition of background material) - use different types of electronic presentation, based on respect for formal, pedagogical and psychological, as well as professional requirements for its representation (preparation for the presentation of a professional text) - prepare a genealogical chart using one of the genealogical programs.
