1. Introduction to the study of the Latin language. 2. Latin alphabet, pronunciation and accent. 3. Substantives and adjectives of the 1st and 2nd declension, possessive pronouns, prepositions. 4. Verbs of I and II conjugation - indicative of the preposition, imperfect and futur I, active forms. 5. Verbs of III. and IV. conjugation - indicative of the preposition, imperfect and futur I, active forms. 6. Repetition and practice lesson I. 7. Verbs of Conjugation I and IV - indicative of the preposition, imperfect and futur I, passive forms, deponent verbs. 8. The verb esse and its compounds. 9. Substantives of the III. declension. 10. Repeat and practice lesson II. 11. Adjectives of the third declension, participles of the preposition. 12. Participles of the preposition in the ablative absolute, demonstrative pronouns. 13. Substantives of the IV. and V. declension, binding of the accusative with the infinitive. 14. Repetition and practice lesson III.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the importance of the Latin language for the humanities, important stages of its development and pronunciation rules. The course is further oriented towards the knowledge of vocabulary and the basic procedures of analyzing and translating Latin sentences. Attention is focused on verb identification, analysis of grammatical characteristics of verb forms, identification of basic syntactic pairs, identification of sentence members in the context of valency syntax and other developing sentence members, and recognition and translation of frequent syntactic links.
The student will be able to explain the importance of the Latin language for the humanities and characterize the main stages of its historical development. The student will be able to apply the rules of Latin pronunciation in reading and interpreting Latin texts. The student knows the basic Latin vocabulary used in medieval Latin texts and uses it to understand a translated text. The student is able to identify the verb form in a Latin sentence and analyze its selected grammatical categories. The student is able to identify the basic syntactic pair and distinguish the individual clause members. The student is able to recognize frequent syntactic links and apply basic procedures for analyzing and translating simple Latin sentences into English.
