1. Cultural monument - definition of the term. Social significance of cultural monuments. Types of cultural monuments, information sources about cultural monuments 2. Building as a source of study of the past 3. The importance of documentation in the environment of monument care 4. Overview of documentation methodologies, list of documentation techniques used 5. Area survey and documentation 6. Inventory survey and documentation 7. Classification survey and documentation 8. Finding and finding situation 9. Artefact and its properties 10. Stratigraphic analysis and typological analysis of the architectural element 11. Office and logistical preparation of field documentation 12. Practical field exercises I. 13. Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the theory and practice of documentation of historical buildings in the environment of conservation. The practical acquisition of basic documentation methods and techniques is based on knowledge of the typology of architectural details and historic structures across architectural styles. Emphasis is placed on the practical acquisition of a basic portfolio of practical expertise and skills.
The student will gain knowledge about the basic methods of documentation of a specific type of immovable cultural monuments - historical buildings and will get acquainted with their use. The student will be able to orientate himself/herself in finding situations and choose appropriate methods and techniques for obtaining relevant data from historic buildings. The applicable output is a seminar paper in the form of a finding report on the inventory of architectural elements according to the certified methodology of the National Institute of Historical Research.
