Course content
The teaching of the course in combined form summarizes the following topics by individual teaching blocks: 1. Cartography, methods, old maps, historical maps, reconstruction maps 2. Data sources 3. map-making software, basic map work 4. Databases, map analysis and compilation 5. Practical work on the project Within the framework of self-study, students deal with the topics included in the compulsory literature and especially in the course outline, tasks assigned in the full-time part of the course or in the Moodle learning system, as well as on the basis of individual consultations with the teacher realized in person, on-line (blue.ujep.cz) or by correspondence (e-mail).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basics of practical cartography, including procedures that will lead to the creation of a basic map reflecting a specific spatial phenomenon in a historical context. Emphasis is placed on the typology of sources and the procedures for excerpting data as a basis for map production. Attention is also given to map-making software and procedures for creating cartographic output.
The graduate demonstrates knowledge of the basic milestones in the development of cartography as a science. The student will understand the basics of creating maps with historical content and be familiar with the essential software for creating basic cartographic output. The student will be familiar with the programming environment and be proficient with the various components and processes leading to digital map output.
