Course content
|
The teaching of the course in combined form includes the following topics in individual teaching blocks: 1. Methods of work and sources of historical geography, regional history 2. Historical regions and the development of the territory of the Czech state 3. Development of the cultural landscape of the Czech lands 4. Selected chapters from the historical geography of Europe and the world 5. Practical examples of historical geographic research Within the framework of self-study, students deal with the topics included in the compulsory literature and in particular in the course outline, tasks assigned in the full-time part of the course or in the Moodle learning system, as well as on the basis of individual consultations with the teacher carried out in person, on-line (blue.ujep.cz) or by correspondence (e-mail).

Learning outcomes
|
The course aims to provide students with information on the spatial definition and physical-geographical conditioning of certain historical processes and phenomena. The emphasis is not only on the typology of sources, but also on the methods of historical geography. Students should then reflect on the interdisciplinary nature of historical geography and its overlap with environmental and regional history. Thus, the course also aims to provide students with a geographical context within the framework of the knowledge acquired so far in other courses. The course will focus mainly on the historical geography of the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century and regional topics with particular reference to the history of Northwest Bohemia. Issues of wider Central Europe and the world will be covered selectively. At the same time, the regional context will also be strongly emphasised. In terms of the concept of teaching, the lectures will focus on the theoretical basis and the subsequent seminars on the concrete use of sources and the possibilities of their interpretation.
The student will understand the basic methodological procedures of historical geography and regional history. The student will be able to categorize the basic sources of historical geography. The student can interpret cartographic sources from different periods. Using the source base, the student can evaluate historical geographic development at the regional level. The student can characterize the development of the cultural landscape of the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The student is familiar with historical topography.
