Course content
|
The teaching of the course in the combined form summarizes these topics in individual teaching blocks: 1. The pre-March period, the Czech national movement before 1848, the revolution of 1848/1849 2. Economic and social development 3. The main milestones of political and constitutional development in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries 4. Czech-German relations 5. Issues related to the creation of the independent Czechoslovak state, circumstances of its establishment Students of the combined form of study deal with topics covered in the compulsory literature and especially in the course outline, tasks assigned in the full-time part of the course or in the Moodle learning system, as well as on the basis of individual consultations with the teacher, also via the communication forum in Moodle or other electronic form.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to understand the main processes of the political, social, economic and cultural development of the Czech lands between 1815 and 1918. The student will gain an orientation in the key events from the end of the Napoleonic Wars to the establishment of the independent Czechoslovak state. Emphasis is placed on understanding modernization processes, national movements, constitutional development, societal changes, and Czech-German relations.
Upon completion of the course, the learner will be able to: -describe and explain the main events and processes of the development of the Czech lands from 1815 to 1918 in the context of European history -analyze the transformation of society in the context of industrialization, urbanization, democratization, parliamentarization, political development and cultural changes -understand the emergence of modern civil society and the process of national emancipation of the Czech nation and other ethnic groups in the monarchy -interpret key milestones in Czech-German relations and evaluate the significance of nationalism as a defining phenomenon of the 19th century -consider the specifics of developments in Moravia, Silesia and Slovakia within the context of the Czech lands and the Austro-Hungarian Empire as a whole -assess the role of the First World War in the context of the transition from monarchy to an independent Czechoslovak state -independently evaluate the causes and consequences of major changes in the politics, society and culture of the Czech lands in the period
