Course content
The teaching of the course in combined form summarize the following topics in individual teaching blocks: 1. Gothic art in the Czech lands 2. Italian Renaissance art 3. Transalpine Renaissance Art 4. Renaissance art in the Czech lands Within the self-study, students deal with topics included in the compulsory literature and especially in the course outline, tasks assigned in the attendance part of the course or in the Moodle learning system, as well as on the basis of individual consultations with the teacher realized also through the communication forum in Moodle or other electronic form.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the clear development of the history of European and Czech art in the period from the beginning of Gothic art in the Czech lands to the Renaissance art of the 16th century. Emphasis is placed on the overall historical context, selected artistic personalities, and individual significant sites and cultural centers. It is also an interpretation of specific buildings and works of art of the period under discussion.
After completing the course, the student will gain a comprehensive overview of the development of art in the Czech lands during the Gothic period and in Europe and in the Czech lands during the Renaissance. He/she will be able to identify key stylistic changes, characteristic features of architecture, sculpture and painting of each period, both in the local and European context. Understand the historical, political and cultural context of the creation of works of art, including the influence of the monarchical courts and regional specificities. Gain an understanding of important artists and their contribution to the development of art of the period, and be able to apply this knowledge to the analysis of specific works of art, including those found in north-west Bohemia.
