Course content
|
Facultative course is divided in two units according to the subject: 1. Breakup of Yugoslavia and its consequences and 2. Crisis and dissolution of the Soviet bloc Topics of lectures and practicals: 1. Formation, development and dissolution of Yugoslavia 2. Historical development of Slovenia 3. Specific development of Serbia ( nationalistic, political and religious problems) 4. Problems of an autonomous area of Kosovo 5. Bosnia and Herzegovina in historical context 6. Croatia, historical development and present time 7. Macedonia, historical development, territorial changes, interests of great powers 8. Montenegro - coexistence with Yugoslavia, confederation, independence? 1. Imperial policy of Russia from the year 1917 2. USSR - foreign and national policy 3. Dissolution of the USSR - relationship to the post- soviet republics, perspectives of the Commonwealth of Independent States 4. Caucasian nations, their historical development ( Abkhazians, Georgians, Chechnians, Armenians, Ingush people) 5. Causes and consequences of current war conflicts on Caucasus 6. Historical development and current problems in Ukraine 7. Baltic republics

Learning outcomes
|
This facultative course is designed especially for the students of the 4 year, who have already completed basic historical courses of national and general history. They should get acquainted with current and conflicting problems of present time, should understand them and assess them on the basis of knowledge of their historical continuity.
With regard to specificity of resources and other information materials the course also develops various students´skills and abilities such as study and interpreting of resources, comparing different information resources, work with academic literature, visual materials and audiovisual means - their selection and character is to enable students get a grasp of a variety of resources available for historiographic studies. At the same time students will extend their knowledge and abilities concerning historical works.
