Course content
1. Basics of textual linguistics - propositional and communicative concept of the text, selected text definitions 2. Text structure, cohesion and coherence, content, topic, information core of the text, function versus intention, classification of texts 3. An overview of the development of the concept of style as a characteristic feature of the text from antiquity to the present 4. Functional stylistics - characteristics of individual functional styles and communication areas 5. Types of text and their typical features 6.-7. Case studies I: Selected types of text of functional professional style 8-9 Case studies II: Selected types of text of functional journalistic style 10. Methods of stylistic text analysis - an overview 11.-13. Stylistic text analysis: Case studies of selected types of texts 12.-14. Final summary

Learning outcomes
In the course, students will learn about the basic thematic areas of textual linguistics and text stylistics in a synchronous and diachronic view. The course summarizes the basic textual and linguistic knowledge, reflects the development of understanding the phenomenon of "style" in the history, introduces individual functional styles and communication areas, and in selected types of text in which these functional styles are realized. Furthermore, the course introduces students to the methods of a stylistic and a textual linguistic analysis of the text. Finally, the coursework focuses on case studies of stylistic and textual linguistic analysis.
The student - will be acquainted with functional styles and communication areas - will be able to practically apply the methods of stylistic and textual linguistic analysis.
