Learning outcomes
The course focuses on a single primary text, with each session drawing on a different secondary text to discuss various topics related to the one novel. The content of the sessions consists of discussing secondary texts in terms of comprehensibility at the linguistic and content level. Subsequently, the concepts of the secondary texts are applied to the primary text and discussed. The aim is to practice an academic approach to a novel, to formulate theses on secondary texts and thus to develop one's own point of view on the topics discussed and to support it argumentatively.
Students learn to approach and interpret a literary text using a variety of conceptual approaches. They practice working with secondary literature and scholarly concepts. They critically question the boundaries between literary genres. They gain insights into interdisciplinary literary work, as this seminar also draws on concepts from Cultural Studies.
