Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to introduce learners to the theoretical foundations of language contact and its effects. Attention will be paid not only to the social but also to the political and historical context. The main focus of the lectures and seminars is on regional language contact in Central and Eastern Europe and the resulting transfer from German to Czech, and vice versa from Czech to German.
Students will gain insight into the history of language contact in general. This will give them the ability to independently recognize and evaluate linguistic contact phenomena.
