Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to get students acquainted with German-language literature. In class, short, interpretatively accessible literary forms such as fables, fairy tales or short poems will be read together, while the teacher will always choose one compulsory text; at the same time, students will bring the text of their choice. Thus, from the beginning, they will actively participate in the reading choice and thus learn to search for basic information about the genre or literary epoch. Seminars will be conducted in the form of class discussions, emphasis will be placed on the ability to argue and perceive a literary text as a specific statement about the world.
Students will learn the basic principles of an academic approach to literary texts such as understanding fiction and literarity, the importance of genres and rhetorical figures. They will also learn to discuss, argue and defend their opinion in an informed way.
