Course content
The seminar focuses on the joint reading and analysis of Didi Drobna's novel "Ostblockherz" (Eastern Bloc Heart). The novel's themes?including origin, East-West experiences, migration, memory, trauma, and identity?are continuously embedded within the context of Austrian history, society, and culture. Complementing this, a workshop with the author on autobiographical writing will be held. Building on this, the students will write their own autobiographical texts under the project title "Ostblock?", which will be presented at a public reading with the author Didi Drobna.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this seminar is to connect the literary analysis of Didi Drobna's novel "Ostblockherz" with key aspects of Austrian regional studies. Students will deepen their understanding of contemporary Austrian literature and themes such as migration, identity, memory, and social change in Central Europe. At the same time, they will further develop their intercultural competence, their language skills at level B2, and their capacity for critical reflection. Students will be provided with their own copy of the novel.
Upon completion of the seminar, students will possess in-depth knowledge of contemporary Austrian literature and key aspects of Austrian cultural studies. They will acquire skills in literary analysis, autobiographical writing, and the oral presentation of literary texts. Furthermore, they will strengthen their intercultural sensitivity, their linguistic expression at the B2 level, and their ability to critically reflect on personal and societal experiences.
