Learning outcomes
In seminars, lectures and by independent study, students will acquire a chronological overview of key events in the political history and cultural development of German-speaking society from the rise of the nation communities in the Habsburg Empire, and the creation of the German Reich in 1871 to the present. There will be a special focus on Czech-German relations. Another goal is to introduce the significant figures from German cultural history and their role in the collective national consciousness of today's Germans and Austrians.
The student - is able to work critically with German-language primary and secondary sources; - is able to identify a problem independently and interpret the text; - improved their ability to argue in discussions; - improved in writing; - expanded vocabulary in the field of history and culture; - is familiar with the geography of the German-speaking area; - is familiar with the historical and cultural development of German-speaking areas.

To obtain credit - Regular preparatory homework - Regular and active part in the seminars The exam: Students talk about one of 15 problems they draw. On the basis of individual preparation, they can specify the problem, reflect on its development and its impact on the history of German-speaking society. They also briefly explain the concepts involved.
