Learning outcomes
Participants will have the opportunity to listen to papers by foreign scholars, writers and journalists whose common denominator is the literary depiction or grasp of the "landscape of home" or, conversely, of human "uprootedness due to the loss of home". Geographically, the papers deal with Central and Eastern Europe, plagued during the 20th century by forced deportations, the destruction of homes, forced migrations, but the experience of creating new homes. Does the literature offer ways of escaping the horrors and dangers and thereby finding a place of security and safety?
- thinking about the categories of home, losing home and building it - the possibilities of fictionalising home in literature - recognise the difference between reality and fiction - learn about historical German-speaking landscapes and their cultural heritage - improve communicative competence
