Examples of possible themes: " Theory of the state and utopia in Baroque literature " Philosophy, Aesthetics and literary theory in the Enlightment period " The French Revolution as a challenge to literature at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. " Literary strategies in the 19th century (the novel, drama, lyrics) " Historicism, positivism and realism in the second half of the 19th century " Problems of the literary avant-garde at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries " Metamorphoses of drama in the 20th century " Mass media and their influence on the literary life in the 20th century " Literature , politics and power in the 20th century " Language crisis and the problem of identity in Austrian literature in the 20th and 21st centuries

Learning outcomes
Its aim is to extend and make deeper the existing knowledge in the sphere of the history of literature of the German language area and to examine the doctoral student´s knowledge of in the area of literary scholarship and historical and philosophical relations of the given literary era. Oral Examination: is carried out in the form of debate focused on the theme of the dissertation submitted by the doctoral student. The selected theme takes into account the orientation of the dissertation project of the student.
The Doctoral student has a well-funded expertise in the selected area of the history of literature in the German-speaking area, understands more deeply the literary and historical-philosophical context of the given epoch and can interpret literary works on their basis.
